Domaine de Fontenille

After successfully developing various luxury fashion brands, partners Frédéric Biousse and Guillaume Foucher decided to sell their shares in the company in order to devote their time and resources to resurrecting historic properties to former glory while connecting them to agricultural projects focused on organic and bio-dynamic practices. Their first project is Domaine de Fontenille in Lubéron. Along with a Rélais & Châteaux hotel, the property has 43 ha organically farmed vineyards, fields, a forest, and an organic garden that supplies the hotel’s two restaurants. The fact that the vineyards and garden do not have any direct neighbours ensures the purity of the agricultural operation.

The winery and vineyards are managed by Joan Poillet and enologist Xavier Balespouey.

Fontenille Blanc · Profile

A delightful blend of 60% Rolle (the local name for Vermentino) and 20% each of Grenachhe Blanc and Clairette. The wine spends about three months on fine lees before a gentle filtration prior to bottling. The intend of the wine is to present a fresh and fruit driven image of the terroir. In the nose, notes of ripe yellow fruit are accentuated by a pleasant touch of honey. The fresh acidity provides backbone and balance, leading into a smooth, refreshing finish.

Fontenille Rosé · Profile

A more fuller bodied interpretation of a dry rosé wine when compared to the normal rosé wines from Provence. The wine is a carefully crafted blend of 50% Grenache Noir, 20% Syrah, 20% Cinsault, and 10% Mourvèdre. The grapes are mechanically harvested between 2:00 and 8:00 in the morning to ensure maximum freshness. Temperature controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel. The aroma of the wine is reminiscent of a morning walk through a blooming garden with various nuances of fresh and exotic smells. On the palate there is an explosion of lively fruit, leading into a long, slightly salty finish.
