Moulin de la Gardette

Moulin de la Gardette is a small 10 ha family owned property in Gigondas with vineyards stretching from the plateau close to the village to the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains. Most of vineyards face northwest, at elevations from 100m to 300m above sea level with soils that are a mixture of limestone and clay.

The vineyard has been in the hands of the Meunier family since 1670. Jean-Baptiste Meunier took over in 1990 and in the year 2000 converted to organic/ biodynamic viticulture.

The low average yield of only 27hl/ha is the result of Jean-Baptiste’s choice of organic viticulture and the maturity of the vines with an average age of 65 years along with the typically dry growing conditions in the southern Rhône valley in the path of the relentless mistral wind.

The wines from Moulin de la Gardette with Grenache as the strong foundation of the cuvées are full of deliciously concentrated flavours.

Moulin de la Gardette Gigondas Cuvée Tradition · Profile

The Cuvée Tradition is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, and 10% Cinsault. This deep, muscular wine with its intense rich palate is the essence of the southern Rhône. Aromas of ripe plums with pleasant hints of white pepper and herbs lead into big flavours of black fruit and undertones of smoked meat. The tannins are firm and ripe, the finish long and supple.
